David, I too love your line about "the potential and the pitfalls of possibility." Sometimes, when I watch BEST YEARS, I try to imagine what it would like to watch it in 1946--when the wounds of war hadn't healed yet for our nation. There's an honesty to the film and I think that is its greatest strength.
